It became available to download on September 23, 2010. Prior to the release of The Sims 3 Barnacle Bay, the price was 1650 SimPoints,[2] but after the release of The Sims 3 Barnacle Bay, the price was raised to 2000 SimPoints. As of May 2012, Barnacle Bay is no longer available for purchase with SimPoints. Description[]
A New World Awaits - Escape to Barnacle Bay today!
An island nestled in the Simuyan Sea, Barnacle Bay is a vibrant vacation getaway with stunning beaches, campgrounds, parks, and a curiously modern downtown. First settled by pirates, fisherman, and artists - the world's inhabitants now enjoy relaxing at Smuggler's Beach and letting loose at The Wanderer's Watering Hole. Will Your trip be a vacation or a staycation?
Overview[]
Barnacle Bay is by far the city with the deepest connection to the sea and to pirates. The city features four default beaches. The new clothing and personalities introduced are also outdoor-like, and many Sims possess the Angler trait.
The town is set after The Sims 2, as the Caliente sisters have moved from Pleasantview to Barnacle Bay, which is confirmed by Dina's biography: "The Sims 2 Sisters are back! Can Dina break hearts in Barnacle Bay like she did in Pleasantview? She wants to find out."
Backstory[]
Ahoy, Matey!
Fear me…ye…scurvy…dog… Alright, so I’m not a pirate. But my great, great, grandparents were. They burned, pillaged, looted and merrily stole treasure. It was a pirate’s life for them! They settled here in Barnacle Bay way back in the day, when the island was more about escaping the authorities and less about escaping the drudgery of everyday life. Even though it’s not really dangerous anymore, Barnacle Bay is an amazing place where people of all types come and find a place in the world where they can nestle.
With beautiful beaches, relaxing campgrounds, plentiful parks and a modern downtown area there’s something for everyone here! I mean, have you seen that restaurant? It’s a boat! A boat that crashed! How crazy is that? Haha! So come along for a visit; you just might find yourself wanting to stay.

NPCs[]
Deceased Sims[]
Notes[]
- According to an XML in the world file, Sims in Barnacle Bay carry preset celebrity data so that a large number of Barnacle Bay Sims (except service NPCs) are celebrities if Late Night is installed.
- 57 new Sims and over 25 NPCs including familiar faces and pirates are included.[4]
- 18 new items exclusive to this pack are included.[5]
- A unique new diner rabbit hole, Hogan's Deep Sea Diner, is included.[4][6]
- The Wanderer's Watering Hole[7] is perfect for being converted to a Late Night drinking venue or a hangout.
- Barnacle Bay sits in The Simuyan Sea, a large sea in SimNation.[7]
Misconceptions[]
- A French gaming site reported that it would cost 600 SimPoints (roughly €6)[8] and a Q&A interview on IGN reported that it was 1650, though that information was later removed from the article.[4] An EA technical support representative mentioned 1650 as well, but stated that it was not certain, as shown in the image on the right.
- In an IGN interview with EA they refer to Barnacle Bay as an "expansion", though this term is incorrect, as it is merely a downloadable world similar to Riverview[4]
Trivia[]
- Like Twinbrook, all deceased Sims have grey hair and green skin.
- On January 1, 2011 Barnacle Bay was the daily deal from The Sims 3 Store and was discounted to 1111 SimPoints. On May 22, 2011 it was the daily deal again and was discounted to 1050 SimPoints.
- There are two repairwomen, two elderly social workers, and many more NPCs with different life stages from other games.
- Barnacle Bay was also released in stores, costing $14. The box contains a slip with a code that players can use at The Sims 3 Store to download the town and two sets.[9]
- The graveyards on Barnacle Bay don't have ponds. Deathfish are found at the large beach across from the art gallery beside the pier posts.
- Although The Sims 3 Store states that it needs the latest update, Barnacle Bay will work on The Sims 3: Fast Lane Stuff (Version 5.0) and later Sims 3 games. But The Sims 3 Ambitions and prior games will need to be updated.
- In an episode of The Simpsons titled "The Wife Aquatic", the Simpson family take a trip to an island in New England called Barnacle Bay.
