If you notice his memories, he was raised by his maternal grandmother. Ajay appears to be Indian, and if that is so, that would mean he would be the only Indian Sim at the start of The Sims 2 game. He is recessive and somewhat weird, as he likes to count the grains of sand in his yard and has absolutely no relationships at the start of the game.
